We would like to congratulate each of this year’s entrants for the second Carousel Aware Prize for Independent Authors (The CAP Awards). As expected, the standard of entries has been very high, but we have now compiled a shortlist for each category.
When Carousel and Aware first decided to launch these awards in the autumn of 2015, we had no idea what was around the corner. Our founder, Carolann Copland, continues to face operations on her spine. But as such life complications were the spark that lit the idea for the Carousel Aware Prize, we are delighted that, despite these ongoing problems, the plunging of The CAP Awards into Irish literary society has once more been successful. This is thanks to the wonderful committee and judges who have given up their time for the benefit of independent authors and the charity Aware. We are much appreciative of their dedication and commitment.
Carousel launched the 2017 awards at an event in The Teachers’ Club in March 2017. At the launch, we introduced last year’s winners and shortlisted authors and we looked at how some of this year’s wonderfully written books could achieve award-winning standard by focusing on structural editing and copy-editing, proofreading, formatting, presentation, book cover design and titles. We also looked at the future of Poetry and Short Stories as separate categories. We are pleased to say that this year’s change to a Best Anthology category which covers short stories and/or poetry collections has proven very successful.
We have also had great support again this year from our sponsors.
The winners of The CAP Awards 2017 will be announced on the evening of Wednesday, 25th October, 2017 in The Teachers’ Club in Parnell Square, Dublin 1 at 7 pm, and it would be wonderful to see as many of you as possible – shortlisted authors and supporters – at the awards evening. So please mark the date. Many of this year’s judges and others connected with independent publishing will be there to talk to you on the night and it will be a wonderful opportunity to meet other authors who are heading down the same publishing route as yourselves.
So let the excitement build in what is becoming one of the most prestigious events in Irish independent publishing and the beginning of an amazing year for our winning authors.
